Dew Cup

Dew Cup

The pressure, the excitement, the rivalry and the stakes all build.

The thing that sets both the Dew Tour and the Winter Dew Tour apart from other action sports competitions is that with each and every Tour stop, the pressure, the excitement, the rivalry and the stakes all build. Because of this, the final event is always an explosive event, one not to be missed.

Thousands of fans, a multitude of tricks, months of training, hundreds of bruises and several sacred moments of glory all amounts to one thing: the Dew Cup Awards Ceremony.

The Dew Cup itself is a custom-made piece of Dew Tour lore; those who have won it know that it takes a season-long battle to reach the top. At the Dew Cup Awards Ceremony, the deserving athletes get to finally kick back and soak up the feeling of being on top, Cup in hand, as months of hard work and fierce competition are appropriately rewarded.

Below are some fun facts about the Dew Cup and those who have lifted it as year-long champions:

  • Each Dew Cup is custom-made by Freddie Sheppard and is made of stainless steel and aluminum.

  • The Dew Cup is 19” tall by 12” wide and weighs seven pounds.

  • With an aggressive, clean style illustrated through rock star studs, tribal handles and a brushed metal finish, the Dew Cup is meant to symbolize the spirit of action sports.

  • Jamie Bestwick has won the Dew Cup in BMX vert all five years. The only other Dew Cup champions to go back-to-back-to-back are Daniel Dhers (2006-08) and Ryan Sheckler (2005-07).

  • The tightest race in Dew Cup history occurred in 2005, when Bucky Lasek edged out Pierre-Luc Gagnon by a mere two points (371 to 369). Lasek and Gagnon each won two events during the season, but Lasek's second-place finish at the first ever Dew Tour event made the difference.

  • Chaz Ortiz is the youngest athlete to ever win the Dew Cup, claiming the year-end prize at the age of 14. On the Winter Dew Tour side of things, Sage Kotsenburg took home the Dew Cup as a 16-year-old rookie.

  • Kotsenburg also made history in 2009-10 when he won the Dew Cup without winning an event title the entire season. He took second at two events and third at the other, finishing on the podium at each stop of the Tour.

  • Ryan Guettler and Shaun White are the only two athletes to claim multiple Dew Cups in a single year. Guettler took home the Cup in BMX park and dirt in 2005, while White’s overall championships came in snowboard superpipe and slopestyle on the 2008-09 Winter Dew Tour.
