Today the AMA released the official list of professional numbers for next year's Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
As the 250 Class motocross champion, Blake Baggett was allowed to select a new career number in the single digits, so he went with #4. Earning career numbers for the first time this year were the rest of the "Fast Five." Eli Tomac kept #17, while Justin Barcia (51), Mavin Musquin (25) and Ken Roczen (94) all chose numbers from their past.
450 Class riders Broc Tickle (20) and Jake Weimer (12) will also have career numbers for the first time in 2013.
Riders who win a championship are required to run the #1 plate the following year when competing in that class. This means that although Baggett has that new career number, he'll be running the #1 plate in 2013 when the motocross season gets underway. Likewise, 450 champion Ryan Dungey's bike will be adorned with that same #1 plate, which he last raced with during the 2011 season.
Blake Wharton, the highest-ranked rider without a career number, opted to accept #13 rather than pass on the "unlucky" number.
