Josh Grant’s rookie year came in 2004, and he rode his Amsoil Honda to tenth overall in the Motocross Lites series. Along the way, the eighteen-year-old racer earned three podium finishes. The following year was another consistent one, as he finished a solid eighth overall in the East Coast Lites Supercross series. His best finish of the series came at the physically grueling Daytona Supercross, where he battled to the very last corner to earn second place. Grant would close out the year with a seventh overall in the Motocross Lites division, once again competing with the Amsoil Honda satellite team. The 2006 season established Grant as a definite title threat. He would again choose the East Coast Lites series as his battleground, and would finish a respectable third overall.

However, he did so with three wins: one in Atlanta, another in Orlando and the third one in Detroit.  Grant would also finish third in the outdoor national series, with four podiums in the Lites class. In the same year, he would take his Sobe/Samsung Honda CRF250R to the top of the podium at the U.S. Open of Supercross in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2007 season marked Grant’s third year as a pro and he continued to show that he knew what it took to stay up front. A third overall in the Motocross Lites series, which contained an overall win in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, followed three podium finishes in his Supercross season.

Many expected a Supercross Lites title from Grant in 2008, and although he was definitely a pre-season favorite, he got off to a slow start. However, once the season got going, Grant would return to his old self, as he challenged front-runners Ryan Villopoto and teammate and eventual champion Trey Canard.  Grant would go on to finish the season in the fifth spot.

Grant won the 2009 AMA Supercross season opener in Anaheim, Calif.  The win was his first in the premier division, and gave the Muscle Milk/Toyota Team its first supercross victory.  Grant went on to earn two additional podiums, fourth in series points, and top-ranked rookie status.  Grant then podiumed at the opening round of the AMA Motocross Series.  He won his first overall 450 Class motocross victory on July 4, 2009 at the Buchanan, Mich. round of the series.  He podiumed again at the Washougal, Wash. round.  While second in AMA Motocross Series points, Grant encountered injury while qualifying at X Games 15 during the Moto X competition.  After fracturing his ankles, he attempted to race again at the Budd’s Creek round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series only three weeks after the injury.  Grant ran as high as fourth, but two minor crashes ruined his chances to stay at the top of the series points so he sat out the remaining seven motos of the series.  Even so, Grant was still sixth in series points for the year.

During the 2010 motocross, Grant won a moto at Thunder Valley, but missed the last three races of the season with an injury to his left shoulder. Earlier in the year, Grant was forced to sit out the Supercross season with an injury to his other shoulder.

Making his return in 2011 onboard an American Honda ride, Josh could not shake the injury bug. An ijury suffered at the second SX round sidelined him into the outdoor season. He returned to run 3 races during the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season before succumbing to injury once again.

Grant found himself on a new team once again in 2012, riding aboard a Kawasaki for Jeff Ward Racing. It was a similar result for Grant though, who suffered an early-season shoulder injury during Supercross. The difference is that this time, he was able to come back and stay healthy for the rest of the season. Grant ran the entire Lucas Oil Pro Motocross schedule and turned in some strong rides, finishing 6th in the 450MX Class.

For the 2013 season, Grant reunited with JGR and former teammate Justin Brayton, who had also elected to return to the rig after changing teams in 2012.

Riding for JGR once again in 2014, Grant's Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship campaign got off to a fast start when he won the first moto of the season at Glen Helen.

Grant moved to Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports in 2015, becoming Chad Reed's first team rider aside from himself.
