In 2009 Barcia notched a strong season in 250 MX, finishing 5th on the back of two 2nd-place moto finishes (at Hangtown and Thunder Valley), and six 3rd-place moto finishes, earning him the honors of MX Sports Pro Racing 250 Class Rookie of the Year.

He was a consistent podium finisher in 2010 while taking two wins in Supercross Lites East on his way to second overall on the year. In 250 MX he finished 5th overall and scored in the top-10 at every 250 national except one, earning him three podium finishes. Justin was second overall at Budds Creek, Unadilla and Southwick.

Justin Barcia scored his first championship in 2011, winining the Supercross Lites East Regional title. During the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season, he made several appearances in the 450 Class as a prelude to his future move up to the premier class, performing well against the likes of Dungey, Reed and Villopoto.

The GEICO Honda rider followed that season up with another Supercross Lites East Region championship in 2012. He entered the 250 MX season as one of the top contenders and would consistently run in the top 4 throughout the year. He went on to finish 2nd overall in points behind Blake Baggett.

In 2013, Barcia began contesting Supercross and the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship with Team Honda Muscle Milk aboard a 450. His first-career Supercross win in the 450 Class came at Phoenix in the season's second race - his first of two victories that year. He finished 4th overall in points for Supercross and 3rd in points for Lucas Oil Pro Motocross in his first full season racing the 450 Class.

Barcia switched to the JGR Yamaha team in 2015.

Barcia was born on March 25, 1992.
