TRACK BIO

Established: 1993

Southern California doesn’t just have a place in motocross—it is the place for motocross. Three huge factors led to California becoming the epicenter of the dirt bike industry. First, the West Coast serves as a closer base and shipping quarters for the Japanese brands that dominated the sport for decades. Second, the weather makes riding a year-round activity. Third, Southern California’s endless deserts make the state a natural playground for off-road vehicles. Population growth and sprawl has taken away some of that space—and some of the iconic motocross tracks of the past—but SoCal still loves its dirt bikes.

With Glen Helen Raceway serving as the annual SoCal stop in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross, there’s pressure to make a big statement at the center of the motocross universe—and the races here deliver.

Big statement? Everything is big at Glen Helen! This is supersized motocross. The start straightaway is as long and fast as anything you’ll see, the Talladega first turn is the widest and steepest in the sport, and the up- and downhills are so huge that they’re practically mountains. Glen Helen packs in some big jumps too.

Glen Helen provides many examples of how far the sport has evolved. Few machines could even make it to the top of these hills at all—but 40 motocross bikes can race to the top and back down, repeatedly, all day long. Today’s riders and bikes can do incredible things. On this massive playground, fans can see the upper limits of motorsports and athletic competition at its finest.
