Ryan Villopoto Returns to Form With Anaheim 2 Supercross Victory

The first two races of the Supercross season were rough for defending 450SX champion Ryan Villopoto, filled with multiple costly mistakes. The dominant speed seen from Villopoto in the past was still there though, and tonight proved it.

After dominating his heat race, Villopoto worked his way from as far back as 6th in the Main Event into the lead, sealing the deal with a pass on Trey Canard several laps into the race. From there, RV2 turned on the jets and checked out.

Trey Canard held on for 2nd, while a mistake by Davi Millsaps gave the final podium spot to Chad Reed. Millsaps still finished 4th, good enough to hold onto the red plate for another week, and rounding out the top 5 was holeshot winner Jake Weimer, who managed to hold off Ryan Dungey for that spot as the race drew to a close.

Last week's winner, Justin Barcia, had an issue with a triple and had to pull out of the race with a possible injury.

All of this comes on the same night that longtime veteran Kevin Windham officially announced his retirement.
