Ryan Villopoto Battles the Field, Completes the Sweep in High Point 450 Moto 2

Ryan Villopoto managed to outlast the field as he takes the sweep at High Point.  It was a 3 horse race for the first half of the moto but Villopoto managed to get by Ryan Dungey 11 minutes in and then had a bit of luck as James Stewart's bike had some mechanical issues, causing him to pull out of the race after giving up the lead.

JS7 spent the early part of the race riding out front

Stewart was off to his best run of the season before the bike troubles, but it's hard to say that Villopoto wouldn't have been able to catch him and take the lead with so much time remaining and the incredible start to the season RV2 has had thus far.  Stewart was clearly frustrated after exiting the race and not able to finish after coming in 16th in Moto 1.

Mike Alessi had his best finish of the season, capturing the final spot on the podium.  Alessi was able to hold off Tyla Rattray, who threatened him late in the race, as Alessi was able to create some distance and finish the day 10-3 while Rattray will finish the day 3rd overall by going 4-4.  Trey Canard came in 5th followed by Ryan Sipes, Justin Barcia (who finishes the day 3-7), and Josh Grant, who managed to win the Motorcycle Superstore Holeshot.  Jake Weimer and Justin Brayton rounded out the top 10.

Rattray stepped it up at High Point and lands on the overall podium

The track dried out some from earlier in the day, allowing much faster times from many of the riders. Villopoto beat his best lap from the first moto by 5 seconds at 2:03.  Villopoto's run has become reminiscent of some of the great seasons Ricky Carmichael had as the odds are heavily in favor of Villopoto over the field.  The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider has now won 7 of 8 motos and lost only when he beat himself by falling off of his bike.

Looking ahead the question is, will Villopoto continue dominating the series, or can Ryan Dungey and the rest of the field find a way to win?

Dungey held his own for awhile, but Villopoto was too much to handle once again this week
