During the second moto at Hangtown on Saturday, Austin Forkner pulled off the track mid-race and was unable to return. We now know that a rib injury was responsible for his DNF.

In an Instagram post, Forkner described the incident that led to the injury:

"Second moto my holeshot device released out of the gate and the bars came up and slammed my chest and kinda popped some ribs out of place which made it hard to breath and then they just started to hurt more and more as the moto went on. Didn’t wanna risk crashing again and really wasn’t worth it since I was like mid pack."

Forkner, who was making his return to racing just five weeks after breaking a collarbone, had grabbed a holeshot and finished fourth in the opening moto at Hangtown. His 4-39 moto finishes put him in 12th place overall for the day.

Despite the injuries, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider expects to be on the line for this weekend's race at Glen Helen.
